Masibambane Community Project was established in the year 2001 which it was initiative of the current Chairperson Johan Lewin. The idea was to form an organization that will unite the diverse cultures and people of St. Helena Bay and also to address the social challenges that are facing the community at large. St. Helena Bay is town that mainly dependant on the Fishing industry as a source of Income of which it is was the interest of Johan Lewin to introduce other initiative of sources out income since many people were working as seasonal workers in the local Fishing Factories. When at times there’s no fish in the sea that meant that there’s no income for people and there’s no food as well. Lewin had a vision of introducing other means of income especially in times when there’s no fish. Income generating was one of the visions that this organization would be rendering service of, in the community. Since the year 1996 the West Coast Region itself which St. Helena Bay is part of was getting lots of influx of people from other Provinces in search of job opportunities, as we would know that when resources are limited you find the growth of Conflicts within the people, issues like racial problems etc. HIV/AIDS awareness became the core program that Masibambane would be running in the community. Masibambane took the initiative of it’s core function would be Special Awareness Programmes on HIV/AIDS, on the World Aids day Masibambane would be doing it’s campaigns in the community.
Masibambane has successfully formed partnership in St. Helena Bay, around our Municipality, in the West Coast Region, around the Country and Internationally also our operations or our work is not done in our town only, Masibambane works around the country as well as in International grounds, for we believe if you want to achieve greatly you have to with different organization in an Integrated manner.
